WHO WE ARE
First Baptist Church of Oakridge is a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ who love God, love one another, and love the community in which He has placed us. It is our desire to accept all who would walk through the doors of this church as those whom God loves and desires to come into a saving relationship with Him. Those who have come to know God in this way and join in this fellowship are committed to being and developing as an increasing likeness of HIS PEOPLE under HIS POWER fulfilling HIS PURPOSE.
"His People" means that those who have accepted God's free gift of salvation are now identified as His children and are part of His family growing together into His body - the Church. This salvation is found in His Son Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:2)
"Under His Power" means that our walk of faith is done under the power of the Holy Spirit within us. "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?" (1 Corinthians 3:16)
"Fulfilling His Purpose" means that we believe God has placed us here for a purpose - we are to bring glory to Him and see His kingdom advanced through the continued calling of new ones into the family of God. (Matthew 28:18-20)
As each new one is made a part of the family, they are nurtured and brought along in their faith. At First Baptist Church they join in being His People, under His Power, fulfilling His Purpose.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe the Bible to be the very word of God and that it is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
We believe in God the Father, creator of all, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power.
We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal and only begotten Son of God absolute in His deity, conceived of the Holy Spirit, of virgin birth, sinless in life, making atonement for sins of the world by His death. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension, and His imminent return to the world.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, eternal in deity in all His attributes, who came forth from God to convince the world of sin, of righteousness, of judgment, and to draw mankind to Jesus Christ.
We believe that all people by nature and by choice are sinners but that "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
We believe in heaven and hell as real places of eternal destiny for mankind. Those who have accepted the good news of the gospel of salvation by the blood of Jesus Christ will forever be with Him in heaven. Those who have rejected His offer of salvation through Jesus Christ will forever be apart from God in the torments of hell.
